The October Chatham Conservation Partnership (CCP) meeting will focus on Healthy Yard Alternatives.

Please join us on October 21, 2021, from 9–11:30 a.m. for a virtual meeting entitled Healthy Yard Alternatives: Leave Your Leaves and Reduce Your Lawn

With Autumn upon us it’s a great time to think about making changes in your yard that local wildlife might thank you for. Come to the October Chatham Conservation Partnership meeting to hear ideas that range from lazy to landscape-scale and will “leaf” you wanting to learn more! Leaves provide nutrients for the trees that drop them and shelter for many insects; learn from Barbara Driscoll of New Hope Audubon why you should skip the raking and leave the leaves this fall. Next, we’ll ask you to think beyond the lawn with expert advice from Matt Jones with the Chatham County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension on alternatives that will offer more biodiversity for your buck. Finally, we’ll explore two beautiful examples of home-scale landscapes re-envisioned with wildlife in mind: Debbie Roos with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Chatham County Center will give a virtual tour of the Pollinator Paradise Demonstration Garden and the CCP’s own Allison Schwarz Weakley will highlight a local landowner’s front yard meadow! This meeting will again be conducted virtually so you can head straight outside to break your rake and ditch your grass when we’re done!
